Been working on a project a little bit here and there. It’s in some really early stages, but I’m hoping to do a few Splitting Pixels episodes as I’m starting to work it all out. There’s not much to show, so I’m thinking they’ll be audio or text at this point. We’ll see how it goes.

I forgot to mention that Spokes made it into the Kalmazoo Bicycle Film Festival like I hoped it would. It seemed well received by the audience and it makes me eager to keep working.

I didn’t film myself working this week. It’s kind of awkward and time consuming and I’d rather spend the time just working on the short instead. But here’s some insight as to what went on.

After getting the mixture of photo and video to a point where I was pleased, it was time to start working on the other parts of the short. So, I started where else but the beginning. Now, the beginning all takes place on pieces of paper, not off the paper like the rest of the short. So, I did this part digitally by photoshopping and arranging in final cut rather then trying to lay stuff on the paper to make it look like it’s in the paper or drawing ontop of drawings on paper. It took awhile to clean everything up, and arrange everything to look like it all fits and belongs how it is. It looks decent and I’m happy.

So then I finished my next batch of drawings (I’ve now used a total of at least 300 index cards) and ran out of ink the markers I colored grey with. After a run to three Michaels (one of which has closed, so two Michaels?) I returned with all the markers they had (which ended up being only 3 total) and got back to work. Sarah helped me cut them out and I took all the shots in one sitting on Friday. Cleaned up some stuff in Photoshop and ran it into Final Cut.

I’m now sitting at over a minute of footage.

Not bad, but I’m only about halfway done. Next week I need to kick it into high gear and really work. Time to do a lot more drawing.

I almost wanted to skip the week since I didn’t have much, and it was going to be late anyway. But, here is something so I can keep myself on a track of sorts. It even has about 5 seconds of animation! Wow!
